In Our Classrooms - AP Statistics Lab

AP Statistics students measured the distance an action figure toy would fall with one, two, three, four, and five rubber bands. After collecting the data, a scatter plot of the data was produced. Using graphing calculators they determined the linear equation that best fit their data (A Least Squares Regression Line).

Each groups' data would be different as the toys were of different sizes. The distance between the second floor railing and the foyer floor was then measured.  Each group used their regression equation to predict how many rubber bands it would take for their toy to fall from the second floor railing and come as close to the ground without touching it. The closest two groups then competed to predict a fall from the third floor railing overlooking the foyer.
