English II Gifted Shields Project
Students in Mrs. G. Gill's English II gifted classes read excerpts from The Iliad. In Book XVIII, Achilles is given a new shield. This shield, made by Hephaestus, is decorated with detailed imagery and symbolism significant to Achilles and the people of Homer’s Greece.
Their assignment was to design a shield of their own, decorated with colors and symbols that are significant to them.
The students then presented their shields to the class, explaining the importance of the details they chose. The shields are now decorating the walls of Room 220. Here are a few to view!
