Principal’s Message to Alumni

Alumni to Play a Key Role in Ben Franklin’s Future

Dear Alumni,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support over the last year and a half as Franklin continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. I am committed to keeping you informed and connected to the Franklin Community. We have established a special section on the school’s webpage, www.benfranklinhighschool.org, for alumni and school news, which will be managed by our new Development/Alumni Relations Director, Christy Cowart Read, class of 1989.

I invite you to explore the school’s website, especially the Alumni pages, which provide a variety of information and services to assist our alumni. Through web-based and traditional communications, programs and events, we want to maintain a life-long connection among BFHS Alumni and provide alumni with the opportunity to stay in touch with one another and the school.

It takes committed people who believe in Franklin’s mission to keep our plans moving forward for another 50 years. Franklin is very fortunate to have committed alumni. People have varying talents, circumstances and opportunities to make a difference; your involvement as an alum can be as individualized as your student life was.

I ask you to pause for a moment and contemplate how your Franklin experience has influenced your life…Whom did you meet or marry? What did you learn at BFHS – inside and outside the classroom – and how did you apply it? Where have you lived and worked? What opportunities have come your way? How are you stronger, smarter, better prepared, and more successful because you graduated from Franklin?

We do not see alumni as a part of Franklin’s past, but as an integral part of Franklin’s present and its future. Students do not just pass through Franklin; they are Franklin and always will be. Being a Franklin alum is an unchangeable, lifelong relationship. I encourage you to allow room for Franklin in your life. You will find your investment will be returned many times over.

Please know that no matter where you live or how long it has been since your student days, you remain an important part of the Franklin Community. We value you and need your continued support. Thank you for being a part of a great history and future.

Sincerely,

Delores A. Winfield
Acting Principal
