New Principal/CEO Named By Board

Benjamin Franklin High School’s governing board, Advocates for Academic Excellence in Education, Inc. (AAEE), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Timothy G. Rusnak as the new Principal/CEO effective July 1, 2008. Duris L. Holmes, President of AAEE, said, “Our search committee did a tremendous job in identifying a stellar pool of talented educators from which Dr. Rusnak emerged as the unanimous choice of the committee and the board of directors. Dr. Rusnak brings exceptional experience, enthusiasm and commitment to this position. We believe that he will be an asset not only to Ben Franklin, but to our public school system and community as well and look forward to working with him for many years to come.”

Dr. Rusnak is currently the President of Vincentian Academy-Duquesne University, an award-winning International Baccalaureate school that is part of Duquesne University, in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, PA. He has previously served as a Professor of Education at Duquesne University, as well as a Clinical Associate Professor of Education at Falk Laboratory School at the University of Pittsburgh where he supervised pre and in service teachers and worked with researchers to wed educational theory with classroom practice. Dr Rusnak began his career as a high school teacher, taught middle school and eventually taught and led the elementary program at Falk Laboratory School at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Rusnak is also the co-founder and Director of the Center for Character Education, Civic Responsibility and Teaching.

When asked why he wanted to work at Benjamin Franklin High School Dr. Rusnak replied, “Very few schools have been cited, in an objective way, for their true academic quality. Franklin is unique.
