Austrian Marshall Plan Library Books Donation Arrives
Mr. Eugen J. Stark, Executive Director of the Austrian Marshall Plan and Mr. Gunter Bischof of the University of New Orleans Austrian Center recently visited Franklin to help unpack the approximately $7,500 dollars worth of German language books donated by the Austrian Marshall Plan to Franklin. All of Franklin’s German language books were destroyed in the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina. The Austrian Marshall Plan also sponsored an exchange program of Franklin students in Austria for the past three summers. Ms. Becker, the German program teacher at Franklin and John Parauka, the Austrian Exchange Program Coordinator at Franklin facilitated the donation of the books through the Austrian Marshall Plan. They were helped by Wolfgang Stoiber of the Austrian Marshall Plan who could not attend the unpacking. Ms. Becker said, “The donation of the Austrian Marshall Plan will provide a wide variety of books for student use that has not been possible in the past. The Franklin German language students will become better readers and speakers of German because of this donation. We are very thankful.” |
