Model Classrooms
Benjamin Franklin High School is proud of its dedication to being at the forefront of technology. In an effort to continue to advance technology in our classrooms 10 model classrooms have been installed on the BFHS campus. The classrooms are distributed among the school's many curricular departments with 3 in the Science Department, 1 in the Math Department, 2 in the Social Studies Department, 3 in the Foreign Language Department, and 1 in the English Department.
Each model classroom consists of 6 student laptops and one teacher laptop complete with docking stations, keyboards, and mice. Additionally each room is fitted with a ceiling mounted LCD projector, a wall mounted Promethean Board, an ACTIVslate, a Qwizdom set, a webcam for the teacher's laptop, 2 digital cameras, a digital video camera, a networked color laser printer, and an Elmo Document Camera.
Ceiling Mounted LCD projector
Ceiling mounted LCD projectors are digital projectors connected to the classroom's various media sources. This non-moving projector allows for a consistently aligned projector allowing for the Promethean Board's touch screen feature to work properly. The projector seaemlessly connects to the Document Camera and teacher's laptop station.
Promethean Board and ACTIVslate
Lighting the Flame of Learning - the catch phrase of the Promethean corporation says it all. Through the use of the Promethean board and ACTIVslate, teachers are able to take their show on the road. Teachers are able to write on the ACTIVslate even in the back of the room and allow students to write on the board from their seats. Additionally, the board has a sensitve touch screen allowing teachers to write directly on the projector screen, highlight important facts in presentations, and even print lecture notes for students in need.
Qwizdom
Qwizdom is an interactive class polling, surveying, and quizzing system through which teachers can ask questions and get a feel for the classes overall knowledge of a given topic. The feedback is instantaneous and allows students to share what they know, or don't, without the fear of embarrassment. This enhancement allows teachers to find out what individual students know a lesson and reteach if necessary.
Elmo Document Camera
Imagine an overhead projector, without the transparencies. Document cameras allow teachers to display primary documents on the screen, and allow students to use their physical homework instead of having to transcribe them onto transparencies, or the chalk board.
