Mardi Gras "Act Responsibly" Campaign

The Peer Assistance Team will launch its campaign to raise awareness and educate students about the benefits of acting responsibly during the Mardi Gras season. Once again, we are focusing our attention on the #1 killer of teens- car crashes. In the U.S. 4,000 teens died in 2008 in car crashes. The good news is that this statistic is down from over 5,000 in 2007. However, that's still an average of 11 teens a day that lose their lives in car crashes. We have planned some activities throughout the week to "drive" the message home; teen car crash deaths are preventable and we can help reduce this startling statistic.

A crashed car will be set up on Franklin grounds at the corner of St. Anthony and Leon C. Simon Blvd.

Monday, February 8 - Friday 12, 2010
Morning announcements, lead by PAT members, will be made emphasizing teen driving statistics, contributing causes of car crashes among teens, how to avoid being a statistic and other ways to act responsibly while having fun.

Beginning Monday, eleven (11) students will wear black numbered t-shirts each day until there are fifty-five (55) students with t-shirts by Friday. This is to bring attention to the alarming U.S. statistic surrounding teen car crash deaths.

There will be a lunch event in the courtyard. Tables will be set up with resources, visual displays, interactive activities and tips encouraging healthy decision making during the break. A music ensemble and the cheerleaders will perform. Also, 'cab cards' will be placed on the windshields of cars in the student parking lot.
