Green Society Volunteers at Beach Sweep
On Saturday, September 19, twenty-five BFHS students and their teacher, Dr. Gubala, attended the 2008 Beach Sweep sponsored by the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation. Students arrived at the BFHS campus and began picking up trash around the campus. The student's divided into two teams and tackled two sectors. The first team cleaned from campus to Filmore Street, while the other cleaned the fifteen blocks from the 17th Street Canal to Elysian Fields. When all was tallied the BFHS students had collected 29 bags averaging 13 pounds each. The students separated aluminum cans from other debris and the aluminum will be recycled.
