AP Environmental Science Students Vicit L.U.M.C.O.N.
Take a look at some of our students in action! AP Environmental Science students participated in a mini-course in marine biology and wetlands education during an overnight trip to the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) facility research station in Chauvin, LA over the weekend of October 2nd. Students were able to experience life as a research scientist and interacted with university educators, graduate students, and researchers during their stay. One highlight of the trip was a cruise on the Research Vessel Acadiana, during which they sampled, classified, and observed living organisms from different aquatic life zones. Students also did lab work, including a squid dissection and an observation and classification of marine plankton specimens they had collected. Best of all, there was no cost to the students for this trip; it was financed by Franklin's Taylor Award for Achievement from the 2009 Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair. This award was given to schools with an exceptional number of student winning projects. |
