Mardi Gras "Act Responsibly" Campaign
February 28 - March 4, 2011

The Peer Assistance Team(PAT) is launching its campaign to raise awareness and educate students about the benefits of acting responsibly during the Mardi Gras season. They are focusing attention on the #1 killer of teens- car crashes. In the U.S. 4,000 teens died in 2008 in car crashes which is down from over 5,000 in 2007. However, that’s still an average of 11 teens a day that lose their lives in car crashes. Activities throughout the week aim to “drive” the message home . Teen car crash deaths are preventable and we can help reduce this startling statistic.

Monday, February 28-Friday March 4, 2011
Morning announcements, led by PAT members, will be made emphasizing teen driving statistics, contributing causes of car crashes among teens, how to avoid being a statistic and other ways to act responsibly while having fun. Each day 55 members of the PAT will wear black numbered headbands. The 55 students participating statistically represent the number of teenagers who will die in car crashes from Monday to Friday.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011
There will be a Mock Crash Presentation on the basketball courts for the juniors and seniors. Simultaneously, the ninth and tenth graders will hear a presentation by Crimestoppers in the auditorium.

Thursday, March 3, 2011
PAT members will distribute flyers and “cab cards” to student drivers.

Please join us in encouraging responsible behavior and good decision making!
