Franklin Welcomes Chinese Visitors from Beijing

This week the Chinese delegation from "The High School" affiliated with Beijing University arrived at Franklin. The delegation consists of 30 students, 5 faculty members, and 1 parent. They are staying in the UNO dorms, eating breakfast and lunch at Franklin, touring the city in late afternoon, and having dinner in a variety of New Orleans restaurants. The Chinese students "shadowed" our Franklin students and are attending classes during the week. The Chinese teachers participated in classroom discussions and instruction as they were paired with our Franklin teachers.

The Beijing school is considered to be one of the finest high schools in China.  The school’s sprawling campus, in the middle of the crowded and hectic city of Beijing, is home to over 1,500 students.   While the school is not on the campus of the university, in some ways it is like our Franklin in that students are selected in a competitive process and must maintain a good academic record to be enrolled.

This visitation was developed through the memo of understanding signed over the summer as our students visited this Chinese school.  The program that is aimed at exchanging students and eventually faculty is part of our ongoing attempts to expand and enrich our language program through cultural exchanges with selected schools.
